Diptej Vernekar

(b. 1991)

Diptej Vernekar is interested in exploring the relationship between objects, his surroundings, the space and nature which is in a constant state of flux. His work brings together fragments of these disconnected verses, stitching them together into visual poems. The current body of drawings revolves around the weathering of thoughts, where abstract memories get accumulated and translate into obscure species and how beauty and its contradiction co-exist, creating an atmosphere of its own.

Diptej Completed his Bachelor’s Degree from Goa College of Art in 2012 and Masters from SN School of Arts and Communication, Dept. of Fine Arts, Hyderabad in 2014. Recently he was awarded Forbes 30Under30, Forbes India 2019, Fundacao Oriente Visual Arts Award 2018 Jury Award, and Inlaks Fine Art Award 2017 by Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, India. He was Part of Serendipity Arts Festival 2017 and 2018. In 2016 did a group show ‘Horizon Against Nature’ a Collateral Project for Kochi Muziris Biennale 2016-2017 at OED Gallery, Matanchary- Kochi, 2016 Residency at Heritage Hotel Art Spaces, Open 7 Siolim Goa; ‘Silence, Space, Terrestrial, at LATITUDE 28, New Delhi in 2019. He was artist-in-residence for Khoj Peers Residency 2014 Khoj International Artist Association, New Delhi, in 2013 he was awarded Kala Sakshi Award, Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust, Delhi, India. He was part of KHOJ International Workshop Goa, 2017 conducted by Khoj International Artists association Delhi, India. He is a Founding member of GOA OPEN ARTS FESTIVAL and part of Goa Artists Collective.
