Firi Rahman
(b. 1990)
Firi Rahman (b. 1990, Colombo) is a multidisciplinary artist from Sri Lanka who works with painting, drawing, installation, and sculpture. He studied at the Foundation in Art and Design at City and Guilds, Manchester College, UK. His work often raises poignant questions about the Anthropocene, migration, the complexities of identity, and gentrification within Sri Lanka.
Rahman has held several solo exhibitions at the Saskia Fernando Gallery in Colombo, including “Unconventional Beauty” (2015), “Prediction Extinction” (2016), “Enclosed” (2020), and “Swept Away Like Leaves” (2024). His art has also been featured in group exhibitions, including Colomboscope (2015, 2017, 2019, 2022), the Colombo Art Biennale (2016), the Dhaka Art Summit (2023), and the “to Lunuganga” garden art installation at Geoffrey Bawa’s Estate (2024).
As the founder of the community collective “We are from here project,” Rahman is actively involved in social initiatives. He is currently showcasing his work at Cinnamon Life Hotels as part of their Artist Spotlight program and is an alumnus of the U.S. International Visitor Leadership Program on Promoting Social Change Through the Arts (2023).
