Yogesh Ramkrishna

(b. 1991)

Yogesh Ramkrishna, a young visual art practitioner from Pune, Maharashtra works in multiple mediums and often includes different levels of interactivity within his work. Yogesh’s current practice revolves around the feeling that “we are no more the protagonists of our own stories”. It underlines the observations of post-truth behaviours of society, manipulated information and evolved meanings of the spaces and relations from our surrounding world. In his ongoing series of works, the artist attempts to draft the evolution of human personalities with respect to the socio-political conditions that transform us into a completely new species. Often, these species live within us and hold the power to convert a mass of the population. These evolved and semi-evolving human characters appear with a pinch of satire and humour. While the visuals are laden with references from Hindu mythology along with traditional theatrical characters, various acts of work are forced to be carried out in certain restricted conditions, all for the sake of survival. Yet, reaching beyond mere survival, the artist gives us hope for change in a better future for our world. As everyday people morph into evolutionary beings, their reality leaps into Fantasmic futures where the mundane meets the extraordinary as they merge to create a path for themselves.

Yogesh received his B.F.A in Painting from Sir J.J. School of Arts and M.V.A from the Graphic Department of M.S. University of Baroda, Gujarat.
